The Rose Muddle Mysteries: The Amber Pendant – Imogen White

I devoured the deliciously dark ‘The Amber Pendant’ in one sitting, it is one of those books that demands to be read and life just has to stop so that you can lose yourself within its pages. Rose Muddle can’t believe her luck when she is plucked from a miserable life at the workhouse to become a maid in a grand mansion. Having every other Sunday off and getting paid a shilling and threepence a week feels too good to be true but her new life is not as rosy as it first seemed. She soon discovers that her new mistress Miss Templeforth has chosen Rose for a very mysterious reason and has secret plans for her – plans which involve a strange amber pendant which has the most extraordinary powers. Being the guardian of this mysterious pendant causes Rose to become entangled in a battle between good and evil. Can she uncover the truth of her own destiny and stop these forces of evil before it’s too late.

Wonderfully dramatic and filled with just enough darkness and danger to captivate and enthral the reader, this is a truly stunning debut from Imogen White. Imogen has assembled a magnificent cast of characters from the bold and fierce Rose to the loyal and clever Rui who prides himself on being able to solve any mystery. She has created the most menacing and despicable villains who will go to extraordinary lengths to succeed in their terrifying goal and it’s their ruthlessness that gives the story a thrilling edge.  At the heart of this story is a tale of friendship, courage and bravery as Rose and Rui try to uncover the truth before time runs out whilst facing the most difficult and dangerous challenges. This has to be one of my most favourite reads of the year an irresistible combination of magic and mystery with rich, beautiful storytelling from Imogen White.

Thank you to Usborne for sending me a copy of this wonderful book.
