Today it’s my stop on the blog tour for the first book in Carina Axelsson’s new series, starting with the funny and entertaining, ‘Royal Rebel.’ On the face of it Lily Waldenburg is just a normal teenager, she loves her adorable dog Coco, her gorgeous guinea pig Zoe and likes nothing better than hanging out with her ‘bff’ Leonie. She spends her spare time designing outfits and customising her clothes, creating her dream look and one day she dreams of becoming a fashion vlogger. So far so good, just your average teenager. But when Lily starts her own style vlog, ‘Tiara Girl,’ it threatens to expose her true identity and rumble her secret. Because Lily Waldenburg is in fact Her Royal Highness Lilian Athena Isabella Marie, the Crown Princess of Waldenburg. And her undercover activities are definitely not going to get the seal of approval from her mother the Queen!
This is an entertaining romp of a princess story with a interesting twist. Lily is not going to be waiting for her handsome prince to turn up and sweep her off her feet when she grows up, while she spends her days looking glamorous. Her destiny is to rule the Queendom – she lives in a matriarchal and matrilineal society – which comes with huge responsibilities. Inside Lily is just desperate to be normal and live out her fashion dreams but she is already being groomed for her new role and as far as she can see the only benefits are tiaras and beautiful ballgowns. It is filled with lots of hilarious moments as Lily tries to keep ‘Tiara Girl,’ secret from her family and the rest of the world, my favourite involves a pink wig and Zoe, the guinea pig. Light-hearted and entertaining this story is pure escapism. With two more books in the series, ‘Designer,’ and ‘Stylist,’ due for release in June and September, I can see it quickly developing a following of it’s own.
